These were the first statues erected in Borrego on Borrego Springs Road. These are Gomphotheres, or prehistoric elephants that lived in the area, roughly 3 million years prior. LINK TO SD TRIB BLOG

At sunrise on the morning of July 2, 2008, took a few pix of these first sculpture that had been erected a few months prior.





May 2008

These turtle sculptures were added in early May near the entrance to Indianhead Ranch on Henderson Canyon Road. This prehistoric turtle on the right is near the gate entrance to Indianhead Ranch on the north side of the road. Below are examples of turtles on the south side of the road.

These elephant sculptures are just south of the turtles, on Borrego Springs Road.

These Sabre-tooth sculptures are just north of the turtles, on the entrance road to Indianhead Ranch, just W of the road and not far from the gates.

These following sculptures were erected in mid-July 2008. A mother and child camel and a 12' tall Megatherium (resembling a Tyranosaurus from the road!) were added in the vicinity of the weekend of July 12th.


These camels are near the Pleistocene elephant relatives





Megatheriums actually could reach heights of 20' when standing upright!

Mammoths were installed near Deep Well this month

Statues started going up in the Deep Well area of Borrego, and within a month there were about 20 of them! The first were the 3 mammoths, followed by the horses and lions.
