The format will be the standard double elimination format. As this is "the season", it is a good idea to make reservations early. If you are planning to play, you must sign up by 6:00 p.m. on the eve of the tournament. Sign-up at the clubhouse, or contact Jef, phone 760-767-4536 or e-mail: jefbstc@gmail.com, or if all else fails, call the tennis center at 760-767-0577 the Friday night before the tournament (definitely before 6 p.m.). The draw will be completed by around 9:00 P.M. and play will begin on Saturday, as early as 8:00 a.m. After 9pm on the Friday before the tournament, Jef will try to upload the draw (including partners, start times, and opponents) to our website at www.borregotennis.com and click the tournament date. If you want us to call you with the start time, and don't have internet access, add your phone number with your name when you sign up, or, preferably, arrange to have someone you know check and contact you. Also, if you are just joining the club, please provide contact information, preferably an e-mail address, if you wish to receive a newsletter, and if you want to be listed in the club's directory. If you want to share and consume goodies, there will be a Goody Bar in the clubhouse on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

SATURDAY POTLUCK / HAPPY HOUR
As usual, we will have our potluck on the first day, Saturday, of the tournament. Happy hour starts at 6:30 p.m. and dining starts about 7 p.m. It would help the club if you could please bring your own place settings. If you have door prizes to give away, put them in the "door prize area" before the dinner.

APRIL BANQUET
As you know, our last tournament for the season takes place the weekend of April 16-17 and this is highlighted with our annual banquet. We are lucky to have the fabulous ‘Yorba Linda Gals’ as our emcees so I can guarantee it will be a fun and festive evening.

Sandi Granger has kindly worked with a local caterer (Connie Brooks) to come up with a tasty and reasonably-priced menu. For the entrée you have a choice of meat loaf or chicken. The meat loaf has gluten-free turkey and Italian sausage (not Italian sauce as previously announced). This will be served in the form of cup-cakes and topped with mashed potatoes. The chicken Marsala is served with pasta and both dishes will be accompanied with fresh vegetables, a green salad with balsamic dressing and dinner rolls. Included are hors d’oeuvres, desert, iced water and iced tea.

As usual, hors d’oeuvres will be served at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7:00 p.m. Bring your drink of choice.

The total price for the dinner is $15.00 per person. Payment needs to be received by noon on Sunday, March 20. MAKE CHECK PAYABLE TO BSTC. Mail your check, postmarked no later then March 18, to Rosalyn Smyth, 3050 Rue d’Orleans, No. 239, San Diego, CA 92110 or give to Rosalyn at the March tournament. After this date, the cost increases to $20.00 per person. PLEASE NOTE ON THE CHECK YOUR DINNER CHOICE.

SAN CLEMENTE CAMPOUT
The Borrego Springs Tennis Club extends an invitation to its annual beach get together in San Clemente, California. This event has taken place for several years with some members camping at the local San Clemente State Beach Park, some renting local hotel/motel rooms, and some just making a day trip for tennis at the nearby courts.

Members desiring to camp at San Clemente State Beach should have made their reservations on March 1, 2011 8am or later. Should you not be on the web site or telephone lines when they open on March 1, you will not receive a reserved site. This is a popular locale and time of year. Please review the reservation information located on the park's website for more details.

Should enough members show interest, we can arrange a pot luck barbecue dinner or enjoy one of many local restaurants. This suggested event will be followed up at our next tournament in March.

BORREGO NEWS
Altho much rain hit the valley on the weekend of the last tournament, the next storm was mostly stopped by the mountains. Jef and Kathy returned to Borrego the following weekend, and were delayed about an hour due to bumper-to-bumper traffic of "snow tourists". They were surprised that no new snow could be seen in the Santa Rosas, as there was over a foot of snow on some of the mountains to the south. Because of the rains the valley has received, there should be a fairly good flower show in the valley for the last 2 tournaments of the season.

In Borrego, some shop owners have started a landscaping project on the corner of Palm Canyon Drive and Country Club (by the XL station). They hope to landscape the whole downtown area eventually, planting a number of shade trees between the XL station and the Circle.

FEBRUARY 2011 TOURNAMENT

Susan Dow won the $50 drawing!
Congratulations, Susan!

Despite raining both Friday and Saturday nights, great weather appeared on BOTH days of the tournament, with a 2 hour delay each day to dry the courts. Due to a low turnout, these delays did not delay the conclusion of the tournament mid-Sunday. We witnessed some great tennis and had another nice potluck. Thanks to Fred and Susan for fixing a nice lunch that raised over $50 for the club!

RECYCLED EMAIL JOKE submitted by Liz on 5/10/05
Blonde Logic

A blonde was trying to sell her old car. She was having a lot of problems selling it, because the car had almost 230,000 miles on it.

One day, she told her problem to a brunette she worked with at a salon. The brunette told her, "There is a possibility to make the car easier to sell, but it's not legal."

"That doesn't matter," replied the blonde, "if I can only sell the car."

"Okay," said the brunette. "Here is the address of a friend of mine. He owns a car repair shop. Tell him I sent you and he will 'fix it'. Then you shouldn't have a problem anymore trying to sell your car."

The following weekend, the blonde made the trip to the mechanic. About one month after that, the brunette asked the blonde, "Did you sell your car?"

"No," replied the blonde, "Why should I? It only has 50,000 miles on it!"
