FEBRUARY 12 - 13, 2005 TOURNAMENT - STRAIGHT DOUBLES

The next tournament will be the weekend of February 12 - 13, 2005. This is in the beginning of the season, so getting reservations may be wise. If you are planning to play, you must sign up by 7:30 p.m. on the eve of the tournament. Signup at clubhouse, or contact Jef: phone 760-767-4544, e-mail: jef@znet.com, or Dave Quimby: phone 760-767-4283, e-mail: dmquimby@cox.net. If all else fails, call the tennis center at 760-767-0577 the Friday night before the tournament (before 8 p.m.). The draw will be completed by 9:00 P.M. and play will begin on Saturday at 8:00 A.M. If you want us to call you with the start time, add your phone number with your name when you sign up. If you want to share and consume goodies, there will be a Goody Bar in the clubhouse on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

SATURDAY POTLUCK

The happy hour/potluck will occur 6:30/7 p.m., Saturday night, February 12, 2005, at the tennis center. If you want to contribute to the door prizes, remember to place them in the door prize area before dinner.

BORREGO'S MOST WANTED

Stress from tracking down late payers has driven Harold Plett under the surgeon's knife. When he returns from quadruple by-pass surgery, please remember to pay him before your first match.

BORREGO NEWS

Borrego has had several more soaking rains since the last tournament and wildflowers are becoming more abundant. The brittlebush are starting to bloom early, and so it should be a colorful drive coming down Montezuma.

RUMMAGE SALE

Remember to keep collecting those unused treasures from your house, and bring them to the clubhouse by the February tournament, so that we can sell them into someone else's house at our upcoming (February 19-20) rummage sale. This is your last convenient weekend to transport these treasures to the clubhouse!

JANUARY TOURNAMENT

We had a fair turnout of 40 contestants for the January 15 - 16, 2005 mixed doubles tournament. Weather was perfect with highs in the 70s and no wind! Jef took these pictures of the winners (and finalists). Unfortuneately, he was a little north of the players, and so got some glare from sun. Oops! Jan McNamara won the $50 drawing. Congratulations, Jan!

BSTC SCHEDULE FOR 2004 - 2005 SEASON

November 6, 7February 12, 13
December 4, 5March 12, 13

MEMBER HEALTH

Harriet has reported that John Schultz had his knee operation on January 27th and walked 10 yards with a walker on the 28th! Harold Plett wanted to let you all to know that his angiogram on Friday 1/28/05 showed 90% blockage of his arteries, and that he is scheduled for quadruple bypass surgery on Monday 1/31/05. So he won't be playing tennis for 2-3 months. He seems well and in good spirits. We all hope to see him on the court in April!

SAN CLEMENTE

Our annual campout at San Clemente State Beach is set for September 23 - 26. Some of us arrive a day or two earlier, and stay later. If you would like to join us, you must make reservations either via the internet or by phone. The campground fills up quickly on weekends, so it is important to get reservations early. The earliest date to make reservations for September is March 1 at 8:00 a.m. Last year, many who waited after that did not get reservations. You may make reservations on the internet at www.reserveamerica.com or phone 800-444-7275. Ask for the hook-up area and ask for senior rate, if you qualify.

We hope to see you in San Clemente for a weekend of camping, tennis, beach, and fellowship. We usually plan a group potluck on Saturday night, also. Carmen and Marilyn suggest trying to get campsites that have numbers in the 60s.
